Phase Lock Gel (PLG) Light 2 mL is a centrifuge-separation tube containing a proprietary gel barrier that migrates to form a tight seal between aqueous and organic phases during phenol/chloroform extractions. The gel traps the organic phase and interphase materials below the barrier, enabling complete and easy decanting or pipetting of the aqueous phase and reducing interphase-protein contamination. Primary use cases include DNA and RNA purification workflows, phenol–chloroform extractions, and nucleic acid recovery from low-melt agarose gels.

Key Features:

  • Volume per tube: 2 mL
  • Product density: Light
  • Manufacturer part code: 2302820
  • Pack size: 200 tubes (2 mL each)
  • Usable sample volume per 2.0 mL tube: approximately 100–750 µL

Advantages:

  • Eliminates interphase-protein contamination during phenol extractions for cleaner nucleic acid recovery
  • Up to 30% greater nucleic acid yield compared with conventional extraction methods
  • Gel barrier enables easy decanting or pipetting of the entire aqueous phase, simplifying workflow
  • Reduces direct contact with hazardous organic solvents during sample handling
